Direct SQL connections

The following components make a direct ODBC connection to the Argos database.

• Argos Application Server
• Argos Maintenance Service
• Argos Manager

If these components are not on the same server as the Argos database, and the Windows Firewall is enabled on your database server, they will not be able to communicate without explicit access through the Windows Firewall.

HTTP Connections

The Argos Application Server uses a series of ports to communicate with various devices, workstations and other components. Explicit access will need to be granted regardless of the location of the Application Server components.

Create port exceptions in Windows Firewall

The simplest option to get around the Windows Firewall is to just disable it. Most corporate networks have an adequate network firewall that precludes the need for a firewall running on individual servers. However, if the local Windows Firewall is required, you can allow access through specific ports.

Set an Exception for SQL traffic

1. Open the Windows Firewall settings
2. Click "Inbound Rules" from the left-hand menu
3. Click "New Rule…" from the right-hand menu
4. Choose "Port" and click "Next"
5. Select "TCP" for the port type
6. Choose "Specific local ports" and type 1433, then click "Next"
7. Choose "Allow the connection" and click "Next"
8. Uncheck "Public" and choose "Next"
9. Provide a name and description for the rule, and click "Finish"
10. Click "New Rule…" from the right-hand menu
11. Choose "Port" and click "Next"
12. Select "UDP" for the port type
13. Choose "Specific local ports" and type 1434, then click "Next"
14. Choose "Allow the connection" and click "Next"
15. Uncheck "Public" and choose "Next"
16. Provide a name and description for the rule, and click

Set an exception for HTTP traffic

1. Open the Windows Firewall settings
2. Click "Inbound Rules" from the left-hand menu
3. Click "New Rule…" from the right-hand menu
4. Choose "Port" and click "Next"
5. Select TCP for port type
6. Choose "Specific local ports" and type 7079-7091, then click "Next"
7. At sites that use Argos Onboard for Konica Minolta, also add 50002,50003 to the array of ports
8. Choose "Allow the connection" and click "Next"
9. Uncheck "Public" and choose "Next"
10. Provide a name and description for the rule, and click "Finish"

The Windows Firewall is now configured to allow access.
